Having a good-sized package delivered to your door can be an exciting experience. The box that I received was enormous and I couldn’t believe how big it was. When the shipping box for my HeyBike Explorer 750W was opened, there was an extremely high level of protection applied to all parts of the bike. The front fork and rear derailleur had metal braces put on to protect them and there were piles of foam packaging put in to make sure they were not damaged during transit. It was so thoroughly wrapped and packaged that it took a while for me to untie the knots and unpack all of the items. I’d never seen such a high level of security on a bicycle before. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the brand, but my first impression of this bike and the company was one of pride in their product.
The bike’s frame assembly was already completed, so it was a breeze to attach the other parts. The cables for the gear shifts and big discs were not required for any major adjustments. I was expecting to have to make some adjustments to the disc brake modules on the front and rear of the bike, but they were perfectly calibrated right out of the box. The bike that was purchased came with CST tires that are 26 inches wide, a full aluminum frame, and lubed bike chains. CST tires are known for their long-term performance and durability, meaning the tires won’t need to be replaced anytime soon. The aluminum frame is lightweight and durable which ensures the bike will last for years. A lubed bicycle chain is essential to ensuring smooth gear changes on the bike. We took the bike for its first test ride after adjusting the seat post height to suit my height (between 5’4′′ and 5’6′′), adjusting the handlebar attack angle, and charging it up fully for about 5 to 6 hours.
The bike itself is 80 inches long from the front wheel to the rear wheel, making it very large and long. The rear rack is a nice accessory to have in the event that you need to carry something very heavy, and for this reason, it would make sense to invest in some heavy-duty straps, like the ones commonly referred to as “Bungie Cords.” The frame of the bike also includes a place for a bottle holder or an optional place for a basket above the front headlight. The latter can either be purchased separately or comes in the form of an upgrade.
This electric bike has a 48V 20AH lithium-ion battery that is powered by a 750W brushless motor. This is an amazingly powerful motor that is capable of producing a lot of torque and power. There are five different speed levels that you can select, with level five being the fastest which can reach up to 25MPH in a matter of seconds due to the electric motors that give it an insane acceleration. To ride the bike it’s just as simple as twisting the right handle up to accelerate. The e-bike’s electric mode is powered by a large 20AH battery, which would allow you to travel up to 55 miles on a full charge. Combine this with the pedal assist mode, and you could go up to 70 miles without needing any charging. The Pedal Assist Mode can be highly beneficial because it allows you to get some exercise while also utilizing the electric mode when pedaling, so you can achieve up to 28MPH in this hybrid power mode.
I also like that this bicycle can be manually controlled when the speed mode is 0 and that it has a Shimano 7-speed gear system, allowing for full manual operation at any speed. The innovative removable battery pack is well-designed and very interesting. It has a large capacity, so it sits snugly behind a frame for the seat, and there’s a latch on the back of the seat that flips it over. This opens up access to pull out the battery! The designers behind the product really put a lot of thought into its overall design. I like how there is a large handle at the front of the battery, which helps make it easier to take it out and carry around. It is also great that you can remove the battery from within, meaning you can charge it up inside your home or office.
The designers of these fat tire bikes really thought of everything and added mudguards in addition to the standard fenders. With the wide tires, muddy roads tend to be flying everywhere; it’s nice that they’ve taken this into consideration when designing these bikes. The front wheel suspension can be turned on or off with the turn of a switch. It makes a huge difference if you ride in rough terrain as the suspension on the front wheel and under the seat allows you to have a more comfortable ride.
The large LCD screen in the middle is very easy to read and displays a wealth of information about what you’re currently setting or using. You can see your speed, distance, mode, battery level, and more. Although this bicycle can reach speeds of 25MPH at level 5, you can change and set the level to 2 or 3 if you think that 25MPH is too fast for your needs. It comes with 2 keys which give you access to lock/unlock the battery as well as turn on/off the electric mode. This is an excellent safety feature as it allows you to control how fast your children are able to ride this bike. This can be a lifesaver if you have young children who might want to take it for a ride without your supervision since they cannot go anywhere with it in full electric speed mode.
Finally, it has a very large and stable kickstand that can support the weight of this big bike with the additional weight of luggage or a passenger and love the front headlight and very loud horn to warn cars or people in front of you. The tail light includes a blinking feature that comes on whenever you apply either of the disc brakes at the front or back. The people who designed this electric bike really did think of everything! The taillight can be manually controlled by the rider at any time and is designed to function as a safety feature that can be used to alert drivers, pedestrians, and other bikers in loud environments.
